1 in 8 children have a diagnosable mental health disorder – that’s
roughly 3 children in every classroom and 1 in 6 young people aged
16-24 has symptoms of a common mental disorder such as depression or
an anxiety disorder however Less than 1 in 3 children and young people
with a diagnosable mental health condition get access to NHS care and
treatment.  Many more have been added to very long waiting lists to be
seen and assessed and this is slowed by lack of funding and over
subscription for services for support.

This leaves many young people struggling alone and many turn to ways
of self harm including eating disorders and cutting themselves.  They
feel abandoned and that they have nowhere to turn and no one to talk
to.

Spotlight UK want to work with young people aged 8-24 years and
provide them with a safe platform to feel they can be heard, they can
be themselves and express their emotions and feelings in a safe way
instead of bottling up their emotions.

We want to use Creative Arts to encourage young people to talk about
themes important to them through the power of dance, song writing,
poetry, script writing, story writing, photography, film making,
singing, drama, letter writing

We will then give opportunities to showcase this work through
showcases, safe social media platforms to support other young people
and that will be run and supervised by members of our team to allow
safety and to ensure no bullying goes on, pictures in supermarket
windows.

We hope that by giving young people a chance to speak out and showcase
their feelings in a positive way we can avoid them turning to self
harm and hopefully the young people can encourage each other to be
more positive about themselves.

Team Phillips Basingstoke Half Marathon

The Half Marathon/10k Race this year is on Sunday 2nd October. Phillips Solicitors are putting together a team of 50 runners in the hope of retaining the first-place prize in the Corporate Team category. The day is always good fun with access to a decent spread in the hospitality tent for our runners and spectators alike.
They have selected Spotlight UK to be their charity of the year to help support local families in a number of ways including providing a food bank service, care packages, mentoring and emotional support for children with mental health issues and those who come from vulnerable backgrounds.
We rely on donations and fundraising to continue to provide these vital services to local children and young people. A fundraising page has been setup which can be found by clicking https://donate.giveasyoulive.com/…/phillips-solicitors….
If you would consider donating your registration fee, that would be a great way to boost our fundraising, but any donation or sponsorship money you can raise will be very much appreciated.
